General information about studying musicology
Authorization and special conditions
Admission can take place either at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG) or at the University of Graz. Students must enrol as "main students" at one of the two universities and as "co-enrolment students" at the other. Prerequisites for studying are the provisions laid down in §§ 63, 64 and 65 of the University Act 2002; see also the statutes of the University of Graz under "Study Law Provisions", which apply to this degree program.
Admission requirements for the Bachelor's program

- knowledge of written and spoken English
- at least passive acquisition of other foreign languages relevant to the subject matter of the course
- familiarity with standard European musical notation and basic knowledge of general music theory

- completion of a Bachelor's degree in Musicology or a relevant Bachelor's program or a Bachelor's program at a university of applied sciences or another equivalent degree program at a recognized domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution
- sufficient command of the German language
Further recommended:
- knowledge of written and spoken English
- at least passive acquisition of other foreign languages relevant to the subjects of the degree program

Transitional provisions in the Bachelor's program
Students who started their Bachelor's program in Musicology before the new curriculum came into force (01.10.2017) are entitled to complete their studies within 8 semesters. If the degree program is not completed by 30.09.2021, students are subject to the curriculum for the Bachelor's program in Musicology as amended.
Content: Students who started their Bachelor's degree program in Musicology before the new curriculum came into force (01.10.2017) are entitled to complete their studies within 8 semesters. If the degree program is not completed by 30.09.2021, students are subject to the curriculum for the Bachelor's degree program in Musicology as amended.
Students following the previously valid curriculum are entitled to switch to the currently valid curriculum at any time during the admission periods.
Examinations taken in the expiring Bachelor's program in Musicology (11W) must be recognized for the Bachelor's program in Musicology (17W) by the responsible body in accordance with § 78 UG. Students who remain in the 11W curriculum and have not yet completed the orientation course can have a free elective subject with 0.5 ECTS points credited for it. An orientation course that has already been completed will be recognized as a free elective with 0.5 ECTS credits when switching to Curriculum 17W.

Transitional provisions in the Master's program
Students of the Master's program in Musicology who are subject to the 11W version of the curriculum when the change to the curriculum comes into force on 01.10.2017 will be subject to the 17W version of the curriculum on 01.10.2017.

If you are already registered for the Master's examination at the time the amendment comes into force, you can choose to take the Master's examination in accordance with the provisions of the 11W version of the curriculum or in accordance with the provisions of the 17W version of the curriculum.
