Recognitions
Students who wish to use examinations already completed at other degree programs or universities for a compulsory subject or a restricted elective subject in the Musicology degree program must submit an application for recognition.
For free electives completed at the University of Graz or at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG), such an application for recognition is not necessary (this also applies if the courses were completed with a different study code). However, if a free elective subject was completed at another recognized educational institution, a certificate supplement is required. The supplement must be entered in the online system of the university at which the student is primarily enrolled.
As part of the free elective subjects, it is also possible to have relevant extramural musicology practice recognized (see form).
In addition to the already possible recognition of courses from other post-secondary educational institutions, recognition from subject-specific secondary educational institutions will also be possible from March 2018. This currently only applies to (music) grammar schools; the crediting of courses from conservatories is being planned. The crediting that is already possible concerns the subjects Tonsatz 1 and 2, Formenlehre 1 and 2 and Grundprinzipien der musikalischen Gestaltung.
All recognitions are made by the chairperson of the Curricula Commission for Musicology. The chairperson of the CuKo alternates between the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG) and the University of Graz for one term of office. An application for recognition must be entered in the online system of the university at which the student is enrolled. However, the application must be submitted exclusively to the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Humanities (information/instructions for submission). The application can also be submitted by e-mail.
Before applying for recognition, it is advisable to consult with the chairperson of the CuKo as to whether and in what form the application can be approved.
