The Inter-university Bachelor's and Master's degree program in Musicology has been offered since 2006. The course can be completed with admission as a regular student or as a regular student at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG) or at the University of Graz and "co-enrolment" at the other university.
Students acquire the ability to understand and interpret processes, facts and methods of various sub-disciplines of musicology. In addition, the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG) offers a stylistically broad spectrum of music internships. The course provides both a theoretical and practical introduction to and consolidation of musicological understanding and argumentation as well as preparation for careers in academia and the cultural sector.
The courses focuses on ethnomusicology, jazz and popular music, music in history, aesthetics of music, music psychology and acoustics. The Master's specialization in Pop, Music and Media Culture has no longer been offered since 2018. Relevant content from this former specialization can now be found in the Jazz and Popular Music specialization.
