Basic information on completing the MA and the necessary forms can be found here.

Examination by committee

The procedure is set out in §5 of the curriculum as follows:

The master’s examination is carried out by an examining committee and is worth 3 ECTS. It is a spoken examination and lasts 60 minutes. It can only be taken if all compulsory and elective course units have been successfully completed and the master’s thesis has been positively assessed. The examination committee includes at least three people: the chair and an examiner for each of two Musikologie focus areas (Schwerpunkte). University teachers with a teaching license (Habilitation) may only examine within their authorized area (venia docendi).

The task of organizing a master’s examination is normally shared by the student, relevant academic staff, and office staff. Students are free to approach potential examiners, discuss examination topics with them, and find out when they are available for the exam. To avoid delays, we recommend starting this process well in advance.

To apply for admission to the examination, write to the chair of the curriculum committee. The chair will answer any questions you may have. The application form can be downloaded here.
